Why We Are One In Christ
November 28, 2021 Speaker: Jim Harris Series: Ephesians
Scripture: Ephesians 4:7–10
Today we look at the finished work of Christ as the basis for the unity composed of incredible diversity. Look first at the entire passage.
Ephesians 4:7–10: But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, [Psalm 68:18]
“WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH,
HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES,
AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN.”
(Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)
Today I am going to minor on verse 7 and major on the overall thrust of the passage. We will be discussing spiritual gifts of the body of Christ and how they work together in significant detail in the next several weeks. After having said one, one, one, one, one, one, one Paul now says that something has been given to each one of us.
Ephesians 4:7: But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
There is something unique about every Christian. To each one of us something has been given. It is a special manifestation of the grace of God as designed by Christ for the building of His body. The grace given to each member of the body of Christ can be measured by three things Christ accomplished.
- The Captives Are Captured
- The Gifts Are Given
- The Proclamation To The Prisoners
