Spirit-Led Children

Ephesians 6:1-3: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.

This is the logical section to follow husbands and wives. Remember that the keynote for this entire section (5:22-6:9) is 5:21. An important part of our personal obedience to Christ is to voluntarily arrange our lives such that we submit to those around us. This paragraph is unique among the six in this section, because unlike the other five, I'm preaching mostly to people other than the ones to whom this is addressed. Parents, you need to grasp this because it is your job to pass it along to the next generation. The following paragraph is addressed to you, to help you with how to do it. Consider this your introduction to next week's sermon.
