Take Corrupted Thoughts Captive

January 14, 2024 Speaker: Jim Harris

Topic: New Year

Biblical Counseling is the excellent ministry movement within Biblical churches, through which believers in Jesus Christ help others to understand God's provisions of everything pertaining to life and godliness through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence (2 Peter 1:3).

1 Corinthians 6:9-11: Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

You were means that you formerly were in that state. But in Christ you were washed. You were dirty but you have been made clean. You were sanctified. You were unholy and sinful, and you have been made holy. You were justified. You were under the condemnation of God and alienated from His kingdom, and now He has declared you righteous and adopted you into His family as His spiritual child.

Biblical Counseling is the ministry of helping one another harvest the fruit of the transforming power of God's word as described by King David:

Psalm 19:7–14: The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.
