The Gospel Goes To Greece

April 7, 2024 Speaker: Jim Harris Series: Acts

Scripture: Acts 16:6–18

The second missionary journey has begun. This time the team led by Paul includes a new right-hand man, Silas, and they had added Timothy already. The journey began in Antioch of Syria, the church that had become Paul's home base. 15:41–16:5 describes the first part of the journey.

Paul and Silas took the shortest route from Antioch to the last places that Paul and Barnabas had reached on the first missionary journey. They strengthened the new believers, and always they preached the gospel. The Lord added to their number daily.

This journey was about four times as long as the previous one. Once they had added Timothy to the team, taking advantage of his hybrid Jewish-Gentile heritage and his Roman citizenship, God directed Paul to lead the team in a very specific direction. That begins our passage for today.
