Luke scrupulously makes the connections between the Old Testament and the New Testament, in his two-volume set, the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. What we come to today was predicted centuries earlier. The most detailed Old Testament announcements of the New Covenant are in Jeremiah 31:31-34 (also in chapter 32) and several times in Ezekiel, most notably 37:26-28. Before Jesus went to the cross, He famously gave us the formula we repeat every time we celebrate communion, “This is the New Covenant in my blood.”
Jesus connected the dots for His disciples by repeatedly speaking of the time when the Father would send the Holy Spirit to dwell in His people.
Acts 1:8: . . . but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
Now we're ready for the big day when The Promise Arrives. This is a major part of this turning point in human history and the unfolding of God's Kingdom program.
